Rating: 4 stars
Stuart McKenzie, Director of War Office, is a very capable man. When he tries to apprehend a person who was ransacking his office one night, he landed on his back and the burglar got away.
Cassie Graham is worried for her father. In the war against Napoleon, the latter has no choice but to be caught in between. Cassie will do whatever it takes to get her father back, even if it's facing the Director himself.
Having been caught, Cassie and Mack work together to get through a nefarious scheme. In desperate times, even friends turn against friends.
Mack and Cassie are an example of a strong man and a stronger lady. Cassie is not complete without her independence streak and that drives Mack crazy trying to save her throughout the story. Along the way, it brings about heartache as well. Mack appears to be relentless, but he has his weak spots. Having Cassie around him not only reminds him of a heritage he's been trying to ignore, it forces him to face them straight on. Or it will destroy them.
A ride that blurs the line between love and hate. Add in a pinch of jealousy, loss and war. And that's what you'll find here.
