Will reached into his bag and pulled out a little black box. I hate this box. How obvious is this box, he thought to himself sarcastically. Opening the box, he pulled out the small engagement ring. Will turned and threw the box back in his bag. He exhaled and turned around. There she was, semi-awake and absolutely gorgeous. She sat up slowly, leaning back against the headboard. Curling her knees up to her chest, she snuggled under the sheets. Kat looked over at Will with a smile that made him feel warm inside.
“You’re naked, sir,” she teased. “What are you doing over there?”Will got a little nervous as he rolled the ring around in his hand.
“I want to ask you something.” He walked over to her and sat at the end of the bed. “It’s kind of obvious that I love you, right?” he asked with mock seriousness. “I won’t lie. I’ve tried to be really up front about it and I’m curious if you’ve noticed.”
“I have,” she replied, curious and playing along.
“I’m just saying, by the statistics alone, it should be plain as day. I’ve let you relentlessly take advantage of my body. I mean, the sex I endure for you is pure bliss and I just hope you know why I do it,” he continued with a bit of humorous drama in his voice while his blue eyes stayed locked on hers.
“Oh ho! I had no idea what a burden my naked body was to you,” she fired back, pulling the sheets off, uncovering her still naked body. Sitting up, she moved toward him with a naughty look in her eye.
“I’m so sorry, sir. What can I do to ease your suffering?” she teased as she crawled over to him, kissing his neck. Placing his hand under her chin and raising her up to him, Will kissed her face. Playfully, he pushed her back and they started to wrestle as he pinned her back into her pillow.
He looked deep into her eyes and spoke softly. “I just thought I’d ask. You are my best friend and pretty much the only person I want to be around.” He paused. “I do love you,” he stated factually.
“I know,” she whispered back. Then laughing as she continued, “It took me a while, but I figured it out. The other day it hit me, I think William Frost loves me.”
“And you love me? I’m hoping. I really am,” he teased back.
“It’s true. I do love you. How could I not?!” Her girlish enthusiasm lit up her eyes. Sitting up in the bed, Will looked back at her with a heart-baring sincerity he would only ever show her.
“I’m gonna go start working for my father. I’ve decided.” He waited, watching her expression. “I’m a graduate now and I’m ready to go. I don’t want to take a year off. I’ll enjoy the rest of this summer, but I want to get to
it. Dad said he doesn’t want me in the boardroom if I don’t want to be.” He continued, “And the truth is, I don’t. I want to do philanthropic work. I want to make the world a better place.”
Will paused as he watched her expression. She was listening to him, fully engaged as always, but he could feel her curiosity as to where this was going.
“You and I have talked about this a lot. I know you want to make a difference in the world. We both do. We care a lot about the same things and I know you care about me.” Will looked out the open patio doors at the blue sea behind him and then back at Katherine.
“I want you to join me, Kat,” he said, looking deep into her green eyes.
“But Will, I have two years of school left. I want to at least graduate,” she softly replied with care.
“No, I... I want you to marry me.” Will spoke with the voice of desperate love. “You’re my best friend, Kat. I love you more than anything in this world.” He held out the engagement ring to her.
She sat up, bringing her knees back up to her chest, and looked at him intently with love and emotion that began to overwhelm her expression.
“I love you, Will,” she said softly, looking at the ring in his hand. Then she whispered, “But I’m not ready to get married. I’m not.”
REVIEW
Don't get me wrong Mr. Frost is hot but the story is lacking more. Will is a sexy rich man that has turned into a playboy since Kat turned down his marriage proposal 5 years ago. Then she comes back into his life and she is engaged to Jim. Will sees Kat and realizes that he has never stopped loving her and his goal now is to win her back. You know how the story is going to end but there could have been more of a story here and there wasn't. I read this in about an hour so it was a quick read and there were times I found myself laughing out loud but I don't know if I would recommend this book to someone.
