Jasmine Nichols is a control freak. When she graduates from college as valedictorian with a degree in social services, her friend and mentor Jill Swanson offers her a job, but with one condition. She has to take two weeks off and just have fun. Taking the instructions to heart, Jasmine goes to a club called Debauchery and has a sizzling encounter with a sexy stranger.
Ex-pro football player Gabriel Johnson is done playing the field. Gabe is tired of meaningless relationships, but when he meets a mysterious, beautiful, blue-eyed blonde at Debauchery and the chemistry is undeniable, he knows he’s finally found the one. What he didn’t expect was for her to freak out and run off.
Jasmine thought she made a clean getaway, so needless to say, she’s shocked when she finds herself face to face with the hot guy from the club once again. He’s Jill’s. Half. Brother. Gabe wants to pick up right where they left off and doesn’t waste any time convincing her. Jasmine’s blown away by the intensity of their relationship. How can she control something that makes her feel so wild and uninhibited?
But Jasmine can’t handle the pressure. First, she’s confronted with old insecurities. Then suddenly, her brother has a secret he’ll only share with Gabe, the father who abandoned her shows up—at Gabe’s instigation—and a professional tragedy is the last straw.
What happens when it all falls apart? Is being with Gabe more than she can handle?
3.5 stars
Jasmine Nichols is too afraid to fall in
love. Loving someone means that you could also lose them, and she can’t handle
losing anyone else in her life. She lost her parents when she was younger and
her grandparents took in her twin brother and herself. When the twins turned
seventeen, both their grandparents passed away as well. If it weren’t for Jill
Swanson, their social worker, they would have ended up in the system.
Deciding to let loose one night, Jasmine
goes out for a night on the town to a club called Debauchery. When she is there
she meets the most gorgeous man she has ever seen. Even though Jasmine can feel
the chemistry between them, she freaks and runs off.
Gabriel Johnson is quite taken with the
hottie he met at a club one night; too bad she took off when things were just
getting started. When his sister and one of her friends come over for dinner,
he is completely surprised when he sees that the friend is none other than the
hottie from the club.
Jasmine really tries to let go of her
relationship fears, but it is just too much for her. Gabriel is determined to
make Jasmine see that he loves her and will help her overcome those fears.
This book wasn’t too bad. The story was a
little slow and there was a lot of repetition. The author seemed to also use
references that have been used many times in other books: for example, “he
played my body like a fine tuned instrument”. A lot of paragraphs had sentences
that all started with the same words.
The book did get a bit more interesting
about 75% through. With a little editing and more depth this book could
definitely be a 4 plus stars.
