Author Interview

HI Renee,

Thank you for agreeing to take part in this interview.

Thank you so much for having me!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I grew up in a small Ohio town, always had a sense of adventure, and lived in four different states before settling in the Boston area with my husband of over ten years. We have three small children who are my first and foremost priority. I’m a stay at home mom that loves to sing and dance and make up silly adventures with my kids on a daily basis. I love the mountains and the ocean, immensely. We spend our winters skiing and our summers at the beach. Not going to lie, I love my life.

What inspired you to start writing and decide to publish your first book?

I’ve always been a writer of short poems and musings and had always wanted to write a book, but never had a story I felt was worth telling. Then one summer, characters started to speak to me and I wanted to know more about them. So I sat down with what started out as a character exploration and ended up as After Tuesday, my first novel. I made the jump to publish it because I loved the protagonist, Ruby, and felt that her story was a relatable one. It’s a story that many others can identify with because it’s a realistic portrayal of living with an alcoholic/addict. My hope was that her story would give others hope.

Can you tell us a little about Deciding Tomorrow due out in July?

Deciding Tomorrow is the third and final installment of the THESE DAYS series. It’s the adult component to the series, the first, After Tuesday, is YA and the second, Forgotten Yesterday, is NA. This book is the culmination of everything that started, occurred, and transpired in Ruby’s life as well a second chance love story. My beta readers describe it as deep, steamy, and beautiful. I’m really excited to get this one out.

Are you currently working on any projects?

Right now I’m concentrating mostly on getting Deciding Tomorrow ready for publication, but I’ve started researching and drafting my next novel, Slope, due out in 2015. It’s a contemporary romance that takes place in a small town in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I can’t say too much about it other than…some falls are harder than others.

If you could write with any author who would it be and why?

I would LOVE to write with John Irving. I have been a fan of his stories for years. He’s so flipping incredible, it would be an honor just to watch him write.

What would you say the hardest and easiest part of writing a book is?

Wow. I don’t know. I think each book has it’s easy and hard parts. It’s almost like it’s personal and specific to each book written. Generally though, I think beginnings and endings are the easiest and hardest to write simultaneously. Because you have a vision, so you know what you want to say, but you hope your words convey that vision. That your words don’t fail the vision.

Do you have any traditions after finishing a book?

SLEEP!!! Always sleep and housework. It’s like I give myself permission to join the real world again.

Favorite Book?

Trick question. Grrrr. I have many, but the one book I recommend to everyone I meet is A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. May be one of the smartest PNRs I’ve ever read. LOVE IT.

Favorite Song?

Another trick question! Hmmmm. I’m fickle. I will listen to anything by Josh Radin though. He’s my current go to.

Do you listen to music while reading or writing?

Never. However, I do listen to music before I write. I need silence to write.

Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us. We look forward to reading more from you?

Thank you so much for having me. It’s been a pleasure.
