Author Interview
Hi Emily,

Thank you very much for agreeing to take part in this interview.

Thank you for having me! I’m so excited to be here!

Can you tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to start writing?

Honestly, I’ve always been entranced by stories. I’ve been writing since I was very little. I started going to book signings last year and have met so many amazing authors, all of whom have been inspirations. I have to say that being a part of that world, the online family of writers and readers and bloggers, gave me a sense of confidence I needed to finally publish. When I was asked to try National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), a challenge to write 50,000 words between the 1st and 30th of November, I took a leap of faith and that’s when Moving Forward was born.

Can you tell us about your upcoming release Two Steps Back?

Two Steps Back will be the second installment of the Moving Forward series. It takes place right after the end of Moving Forward, but this time it is in Seth’s POV. I can’t say too much because I don’t want to give anything away, but let me just say that Two Steps Back is going to be raw and emotional and give you another side of Seth Carter, as well as Detective Dawson. We learn a lot about the two of them as they struggle with what was revealed in Moving Forward.

What is your favorite quote from Moving Forward?

“I know I’m lost. I know I’m broken beyond repair and I know that I shouldn’t feel this way. I know deep down there’s something more to this crazy life for me, I just can’t see it yet. I have my good days and I have my bad just like anyone else.”
Ava is admitting her faults to Seth in this scene. I think that we’ve all been there a time or two in our lives; that point where we can’t see a satisfying ending. Ava makes that moment relatable and really pushes the envelope in that scene on how she sees herself and it’s the point in story that we see a stronger side to her.

How many books will be in this series?

Great question! There will be three full lengths novels. Moving Forward, Two Steps Back, and Moving On (WIP title). I suppose this will be a great time to share with you all that I am also working on a novella in the creepy stalkers POV that will be released before Moving On. Only a handful of people know about that!
After Moving On, there will be a spinoff full-length novel for Carissa. Anyone who has read Moving Forward knows that Carissa Jacobs needs her own story! That is all I have planned at the moment for this series.

Are you currently working on any projects?

Right now I am just focused on this first series. I want to get their story out there and share it with the world. The novella for the Moving Forward series is the biggest project I have going on at the moment. I’m putting together a street team as well, so if anyone wants the inside scoop before the rest of the world, as well as some free swag, let me know and I will gladly add you to our wonderful team!

What are you currently reading?

Right now I am re-reading the Rose Gardner series by Denise Grover Swank in anticipation for the next book that is released in June! Rose’s character is one that my character Ava can relate to, in fact, there is even a scene in Moving Forward that proves just that.

Where do you get your inspiration for your books?

My inspiration comes from my family and the wonderful support system I have. No one has ever criticized me in regards to my dreams of writing. My little girl is my biggest inspiration because she motivates me to work hard and show her that anything is possible if you focus and put forth your best effort.

Who is your favorite author?

Denise Grover Swank and Trisha Leigh are two of the kindest, most down to earth ladies I have ever met. They put out stories that bring you in to a world that moves you and sets your emotions on fire. I adore their ability to pull you in and keep you hanging on until the very last word. They have taught me that writing is about passion and doing what you love. That it’s about your story and your voice, no one else’s. Those two are my favorite authors not only because of their brilliant story telling skills, but also because of their kind hearts and great friendship.

Any advice for aspiring writers?

Don’t give up, just keep writing! Don’t be afraid to ask questions either. There are times when self-publishing seems like the world’s most difficult task. It’s not! I found that asking questions and joining support groups made it such a great experience. Sometimes you have to take a step back and regroup, just don’t ever give up.

Thank you so much for taking part in this interview and we look forward to reading more from you!
