Author Interview
Hi Kyra,
Thank you for taking part in this interview!
For those who don’t know much about you, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure! I am a New Adult Contemporary Romance writer, and I live in the South West of England. I’ve been writing pretty much since I learned how to, but only started to take it seriously in 2012 when I decided to self-publish my first book, Game On.
What type of research did you do for “Sidelined” and did you enjoy doing it?
I was pretty lucky with Sidelined in the sense that there wasn’t much that needed research, and also, it is the third book in the Game On Series, so a lot of the things I had planned had started to be set up in the previous books.
Do you have any plans for other series?
Haha, not at the moment! A series is a massive commitment, so I will probably stick with standalones, and the occasional companion novel for a while!
Can you tell us one of your favorite quotes from Sidelined?
I have quite a few favourites in Sidelined, this is just one of them:
“Will you sit down?”
Jude’s request was gentle and I squeezed my eyes closed, trying to keep the tears inside. When did looking at him make me want to run away? Did I even really feel that way? My mind was like a jigsaw puzzle someone had chopped into pieces, and nothing would fit back into place long enough for me to make sense of it. Just when I thought I’d started to put it together, another piece moved, flipped over, disappeared. Jude probably had his own jigsaw. No. He did. I saw it in his eyes every time he looked at me. I was his puzzle.
Do you listen to music while your reading or writing?
Occasionally. It depends on the scene. Often I listen to music before I start, to put me in the right frame of mind for whatever I’m writing. I can only write with music playing when I’m really in the zone.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
There is a death in Sidelined, and that was really rough to deal with. It meant severing a relationship, and leaving the very close knit group of friends in the book with a missing piece. I cried when I wrote parts of it.
What are you currently reading?
Right now I am reading The 13th Floor Collection by Christine Rains. I’m not usually the biggest fan of paranormal books, but Christine Rains is a brilliant author. I highly recommend her!
If you could write with any author, who would it be with and why?
I didn’t even have to think about this one! Jolene Perry. No question. Not only was she the first indie author I ever read, she is one of the most talented, too. I once wrote a blog post called, “When I Grow Up, I Want To Be Jolene Perry” – and that still holds true lol!
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An author or a fashion designer – I think I made a wise choice! ;)
