About the Author:

The sad truth is that I'm not nearly as entertaining as fiction. *Wink* I am a thirty-seven year old stay at home writer, thanks to my incredibly supportive husband. We've been together for thirteen years and I still love waking up next to that sexy man. We lost our furry child recently, so we are childless at the moment. Our whole world revolved around her. Needless to say, I love animals, especially dogs. Okay, maybe not all animals, I'm not a super big fan of monkeys. Any animal that throws their feces kind of eeks me out. I may, or may not, have a problem with candy. I love any research that leads to Neiman Marcus' online shoe department. Spreadsheets give me way more happiness than they should. I love to read, the dirtier the better. It all started with the naughty historical romances by Judith McNaught that I devoured as a teenager. I love reading about hot, sexy alpha males and heroines that are smart enough to live.

Author Interview – Stacy Von Haegert

Today, Stacy Von Haegert talks about her debut release, Under His Protection, the first novel in the The White Rose Trilogy. How gorgeous is this cover?! I have to say, I was hooked from page one. In the meantime, let’s allow Stacy to tell us more about her wonderful first novel.
Stacy, tell us about Under His Protection.
BX2Y9KSCQAA0BkpA: From the back cover… What really happened to the two young princes of York, who were held prisoner in the tower of London by their ambitious uncle following the death of their father, King Edward of York? Some think one son escaped and was later executed by King Henry VII when he returned to claim his rightful throne. But not before he sired a child. In Under His Protection, the first in a new trilogy, Stacy Von Haegert artfully combines history, action, humor and sizzling passion to provide a theory for one of England’s greatest mysteries. The bloodline continues…
London 1838, Present day… Title-hungry matrons of the upper class throw their daughters in Alexander’s path. But the Duke of Ravenswood has no desire to give up his rakish, gaming lifestyle to get hitched. When the Kingston family from New Orleans enters London, however, Alex quickly finds himself unwittingly entangled. With her spirited personality and innocent aversion to all things proper, Greyland Kingston completely knocks him off his game.
The gossip fans flutter when Queen Victoria asks Greyland and her eldest brother, Perkin, to dance the scandalous Viennese Waltz at the Royal ball. Who is this family? How do they know the Queen? Why do they bear such a strong resemblance to the late King of York? Trouble ensues in the form of jealous women, ambitious men and a vengeful Irish clan. Alexander quickly finds that having Greyland for his own will come at a steep price. He must risk everything to keep her protected.
Tell us about your background before you started writing.
A: I grew up in Nashville TN. I am an only child and spent most of my early years fanaticizing characters to play with in the woods on our 50 acre horse farm with my trusted sheltie, Teak. My parent’s bread and showed Arabian horses so I was also riding before I could walk, but my greatest love came from swimming in the natural spring fed river that ran through our land. It was hard to get me out of that river. I am to this day, still most comfortable in the water.
My father was also a musician. He is where I got my love of storytelling from. I have always loved to read and started writing short stories when I was four years old.
I would spend every summer traveling with my grandparents. When I was 12 they took me to London Scotland, Ireland and Wales. I fell in love with the European countryside and still to this day remember thinking…. “Now this is where fairy tales should happen!”
Later I graduated from Watkins film and art school with a double major in directing and cinematography. At the same time, I was also studying and teaching ballroom dance. I went on to dance professionally, and 18 years later I’m still teaching. I most definitely have capitalized on my dance experience in writing this book.
I am married with one very active 9-year-old boy, two cats and a 100 pound collie who is by far the best behaved in the house. When I am not teaching, or writing, you will most liking find me cheering fanatically from the sidelines of a sports field of some sort, closely resembling the mom from the movie “The Blind Side”. Yep, I am sure there is a 12 step program for this, but I have yet to enroll.
What drew you to writing romance? Are you a long-time reader?
A: Poetry was my first love so romance just fit with my need to paint stories that were colorful, passionate and emotionally charged. I adore this genre!
Reading is my escape. I have been in love with the written word since childhood.
When you begin writing a book, do you have the story all outlined in your mind or do you wait and see where the characters take you?
A: A little from column A, and a little from column B actually. I have always been a natural adventurer so I do tend to jump right in. I like to write with the ebb-and-flow that my characters dictate for me. Once I define their personalities, I just run with them.
However, I originally went to film school with the desire to write screen-plays. At the time, I found the structure involved this style of writing to be stifling to my creativity. Now, I think it helps me to keep a plot moving and keeps the back corners of my mind constantly structuring an outline that transitions easily from one scene to the next.
What writers have influenced your own writing?
A: Funny, but my first love was Stephen King. Not very romantic but his story telling and suspense is outstanding! I really try hard to model a lot of my writing around his ability to leave the reader grasping for more.
My greatest love will always be Anne Rice. Her imagery is magnificent! I defiantly would say my inspiration for passion was kindled by her well written scenes.
In college I discovered Jack Kerouac, another writer that spins beautiful webs of intricate words. His ability to take the reader effortlessly from highway gas stations, to beatnik apartments without missing any gaps in between is amazing, and an art form I strive for as well.
In recent years I have come to discovered George R.R Martin, and have hungrily devoured every book in his Game of Thrones series. His twist and turns excite me and his imagination is un-surpassed. While my writing in not nearly as lengthy or involved, I would like to think I draw strongly from his creativity and drama.
I read everything, but these writers are the ones that have inspired me the most for the above mentioned reasons, and in large part due also to their rebellious nature and desire to challenge the literary world.
How difficult was your hero/heroine to write? How do you view their characters?
A: They were a dream to write! Once I wrote down their physical features and a brief description of their personalities they came to life. I just followed their lead. I know I am bias… but I truly believe I have never read a book with two better leading characters than Greyland and Alexander. If I have done anything right, it was to create them.
Greyland is a strong, delightfully funny, and beautiful woman with just enough femininity to be vulnerable.
Alex is all male, yet still has a very raw humanity to him that makes your heart bleed a little at times. I actually found myself crying when I wrote some of his scenes.
How important is the portrayal of families in your work?
A: HUGE! Once I started describing Greyland’s brothers, Perkin and Edward, I quickly realized I had too many great personalities to contain in only one book. Thus, a trilogy was born.
I really think I stepped outside of the traditional romance genre a bit by bringing so many personalities into it, but they all had something to say and it’s personally what I like in a book. I believe that in order for a reader to truly fall in love with a character, they must be able to uncover all aspects of the character’s life. Family and friends are a monumental part of this development. It allows the author to draw in layers of depth that keep the reader turning the pages.
After a long day of writing, how do you indulge yourself?
A: By spending time with my family and friends, or curling up with a great book.
Tell us about your research for the book.
A: I stayed on a historical romance kick for a year leading up to writing this book. I wrote down descriptive words for the time in a journal. Example: The word “Ton” is used to describe an elite group of upper class Lords and Ladies. I also consulted a professor of history to make sure some of my facts were correct. It was important for me to stay in my book’s era, but at the same time, I wanted to create a work of fiction that could also stand on its own without the tethers of a historic biography, hence, the genre, Historical Fiction.
I think I have pushed the boundaries of the historical romance genre just enough to satisfy my original goal of writing a book that takes the reader on an emotional journey and does not bog them down with pages upon pages of descriptive historical words to describe ones dress.
What haven’t you done as a writer that you’d like to attempt?
A: I would love to try my hand at a Vampire series, with my own original spin on that timeless song.
What are you planning next for your readers? What’s next?
A: I am currently wrapping up book 2 in this trilogy, then it’s on the third and final installment. I am already rubbing my hands together in anticipation for that one.
What advice can you give writers who are getting started?
A: Don’t stop! Step away when you need to, but don’t stop.
How can readers get in touch with you?
Thanks so much for coming by today, Stacy!

  Excerpt:
Stepping into the sunshine, Indy shouldered her bag and turned towards the OBX library, her mind running through the assignments she still had to complete when a shadow crossed over her path, a large body falling into step with her, close, but not touching, their strides matching. “Jack,” she said, glancing up at him sideways, a small smile threatening at the corner of her mouth. “Indiana,” he said, echoing back her name, sending a shiver down her spine. He was the only one allowed to call her that, the only person who made the name she’d hated since forever sound friggin’ good. They walked together without another word, turning the corner that separated the courts from the residential area of the complex, but her stride was suddenly cut off when Jack shuffled his feet, sliding his arm around her waist and pulled her into a shady walkway between buildings. Her bag slid off her shoulder, but he caught it before it crashed to the ground and smashed her laptop to smithereens. He let it settle on the ground gently before leaning over her, forcing her to step back into the wall. Walls were their thing. Their first kiss had been against a wall in a random hallway at Roland Garros, their second pressed against the wall of their hotel in Paris and now that they were back in North Carolina, they found any excuse to push each other against a wall and kiss until they were gasping for air and their bodies begged for relief. Jack’s lips trailed from her temple, using the wall behind her as an anchor before bending his head to hers. Pushing up onto her toes, Indy met him halfway. She’d never been so grateful for every millimeter of her five feet ten inches as she was when she was kissing Jack. His hands slid through her hair, twisting it around his fingers, then cradling the back of her head, drawing her mouth more firmly against his. Indy brought her hands to his torso, gripping his t-shirt, letting her palms press against the cut of muscle that disappeared into his cargo shorts. The skin on skin contact made his breath hitch, his mouth opening just enough to allow her tongue to slide in, deepening the kiss, before letting her teeth nip at his bottom lip. A groan rumbled in his throat as he stumbled forward, pressing his body full length against hers. He wrenched his lips from hers, trailing his mouth over the line of her jaw to the spot just behind her ear. It was her turn to gasp and her head fell back as she arched into him. No one had ever kissed her there before. Jack smiled against her skin as her fingertips dug into his sides and she let a moan slip free as he focused his attention on that spot, scraping his teeth against it then soothing that small pain with a flick of his tongue. Her hands scrambled to get purchase against his shoulders, desperate for some leverage, anything to help her slide her body against his. Then he was gone, his hand gone from her hair, his mouth gone from her neck and his body inches then feet away. Indy blinked at him, trying to figure out what happened when the voices echoing down the pathway towards them finally reached her ears. Bending down, he lifted her bag as she ran her fingers through her hair, knowing he’d made an unholy mess of it. “You’re fine,” he muttered, handing her the bag, then keeping the distance between them as a group of junior boys stomped past them, none giving them a second glance. “You have good ears,” Indy said, biting her lip at the close call. If those boys had seen them, the news would have spread like wildfire through the OBX campus and everyone would have known by the end of the day. She was only seventeen for another few months, but that wasn’t really the problem, seventeen or eighteen wouldn’t matter to other people. She was a young tennis pro, he was an up and coming agent. The last thing either of their careers needed was the heightened publicity of a controversial relationship, even if Jack Harrison was far more of a gentleman than any guy she’d ever met. Sometimes a little too much of a gentleman, truth be told. Jack shrugged, glancing back over his shoulder again before facing her fully. “I’m sorry about this.” She reached out and took his hand, “We both agreed,” she said, entwining their fingers together, “it’s just between us for now. It makes sense for the both of us.” Pressing his lips together in a thin line, he nodded, but she knew he wasn’t entirely convinced. “Jack, we talked about this. You said you were okay with it.” “I just wish it were different,” he said, tugging her closer, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. His hands released hers and dropped to her hips, the edges of his thumbs brushing against her hipbones in slow circles sending shivers over her skin. “Me too.” She wanted to scream it from the rooftops that this amazing guy was hers. That he had deep green eyes and a smile that brightened them whenever he looked at her. That he was brilliant in ways that she couldn’t even fathom with his degree from Harvard. That he’d fought their attraction for so long because of that ingrained sense of honor, like one of those heroes in a fairy tale, except Jack was real, flesh and blood. "Have you thought...maybe we should tell Penny?" Indy asked, her fingertips landing on his forearms, gently stroking up to his elbows and back down to his wrists. Jack let out a heavy breath. "Penny has a lot on her plate right now." "I know, I just feel funny keeping it from her. Jasmine knows." "We'll do whatever you want to do. This is your show, baby." "I don't need a supportive…" she hesitated, almost using the word boyfriend, but that didn't really fit, did it? Not if they were keeping it a secret, "I need honest Jack." He leaned back, looking her in the eye. "Honest? Honestly, my sister doesn't do well with change. It freaks her out and right now, I'm not sure that the idea of you and me will go over that well. On the other hand, if we don't tell her and she finds out?" "She'll be pissed." "Yep." "Maybe we wait a little longer. We could tell her in London?" Jack nodded, "Face to face instead of over the phone." “There’s always Skype,” she said, not really sure if she wanted to know what Penny, the only girl who’d made an effort to befriend her when she first arrived at OBX, would think if she found out she and Jack were together. “There’s that.” Indy shook her head. They should do it in person. They should have done it before they left Paris, but Penny had been so devastated by withdrawing from the tournament that it hadn’t felt like the right time then either. “In London. We’ll be there in less than a week. We’ll tell her then.” “Okay, in London.” They stood there for a moment, just breathing each other in until Jack leaned away. “I’ve gotta go. I have a meeting with a potential new client this afternoon and I’ve got to prep.” Indy snorted a laugh. “Right, like you don’t already have a complete profile worked up along with potential sponsors to contact if they sign.” “You know me so well,” he said, leaning around the building, checking the pathway for any more unwanted spectators. “I’ll go this way.” Indy nodded back in the opposite direction. “And I’ll go that way.” With a bow, he was gone, around the corner and out of sight, so she turned and adjusted her bag over her shoulder, heading out from between the buildings and towards the library. She’d have about half the time to get her Calc done than she originally planned. Fingertips pressing against that spot on her neck lightly recalling the feel of his mouth and the way her entire body was lit on fire by his touch, it was totally worth it. “Are you sure that is a good idea?” a voice rang out from just a few steps behind her, the French accent giving its owner away, if the superiority and condescension weren’t enough of a clue. Indy spun around and came face to face with her agent, tall, blonde, perfectly put together in a silk blouse and linen skirt, somehow looking completely cool and calm despite the blaze of the sun. She was in town before they all left for England, mostly to go over her plans for Indy’s future off the court. A denial formed on Indy’s tongue, but she knew it was useless. Caroline had seen them and it probably just confirmed what she’d suspected for a while. Her agent was damn good at her job and it wasn’t like she and Jack had been super careful about keeping private moments behind closed doors. “Good idea or not, it’s none of your business.” Raising her eyes to the sky and shaking her head Caroline said, “You are my business, Indiana.” “How many times do I have to say it? Don’t call me that, and my tennis is your business,” Indy corrected. “Keep your nose out of everything else.” “It is not that simple,” Caroline insisted, her voice inching up in pitch. “It really is.” She turned on her toe and walked away, wanting to look back, hoping that Caroline’s brow was furrowed and her hands were on her hips, lips pursed in aggravation. But looking back would ruin the moment because despite getting in the last word, Caroline now had the upper hand and it was only a matter of time before she used it to her advantage.

“I loved her and she left. Maybe I wasn’t enough. Maybe I’ll never be enough.” I’ve been thinking these words since before we even got together.
Everything is new. The old no longer has a place here. Physical items are easy to replace. I'm constantly battling the ones that aren't.
Every thought and memory I have is stained.
By you.
You weren't even there for half of them.
How is she still present even though she left?
I can do this. I’m going to survive losing her.
*** This is the second book of the His Series, and it DOES end with a cliffhanger. The final book of the His Series, Finding Me, will release June 1, 2015***

“Dude, you’ve got to get up.” Jameson sighs as I pull the pillow back over my head. I don’t even know what day it is anymore. I don’t care.
What adds salt to my wounds is the fact that the world keeps turning. People continue waking up and going about their day. The sun rises and sets. I hear kids laugh and play, neighbors greet one another, and birds sing, and all the while I wonder how? How does the entire world appear to be surviving this nightmare of losing her?
****
Hank comes to visit in June. I still haven’t heard from Ace, and yet I’m still staying at my mom’s. I can’t leave. I can’t go back to that house. I’d moved rooms shortly after she left, and now reside in the guest room on the main floor. It’s better this way. There aren’t any pictures of her in here or random memories, like the one of her sitting on my bean bag chair when I was sick last summer. I also don’t have to face the window that looks out onto hers.
Hank knows that I know mom sent for him, hoping that he’d be able to “help” me. She of all people should know that having Hank around isn’t going to help me. He’s fucking married to the love of his life; he doesn’t have a fucking clue about the shit that I’m going through.
Of all things, Hank wants to go camping. I’m sure he thinks that getting away will help. He doesn’t understand that moving rooms has helped me realize I could go to Antarctica, and things wouldn’t change; the distance isn’t going to make the pain any less.
When we get camp set up, Hank opens a cooler and passes me a beer with a giant, shit-eating grin, like we’ve just overcome a huge hurdle. Deciding that I shouldn’t rain on his little douchebag tea party quite yet, I accept the beer with merely a grimace before taking a long swig. Before long, that single swig becomes a chug, and then a guzzle as I consume more alcohol than what three people probably should.
I sit by the fire and close my eyes. My mind automatically reaches back into that locked and forbidden drawer to pull out the image of Ace, striving to recall the sound of her laugh, the feel of her touch. It brings me back to our camping trip last September, when Jameson announced that was what he wanted to do for his birthday.

Hilary Wynne has completely blown me away yet again! This series has quickly become a favorite of mine. I became emotionally attached to these characters in book 1 "Stay". This book was no different. In this book I cried a lot, got so frustrated and then said WTF. Hilary hits you with a twist you don't see coming. – Eye Candy Bookstore
We’re walking to our table in the back when I feel a strong arm reach around my waist and pull me back a little. I know it’s Julian by the way he smells and the feel of his chest against my back. My pulse quickens. I try to turn around, but he holds me tightly against him and whispers in my ear.
“I’m not sure I approve of this dress in my restaurant. I just watched a few men choke on their food when you walked by. Not to mention you’ve made several ladies very unhappy. It doesn’t leave much to the imagination, mi amor. Es un poquito corto, no?”
I can feel the heat from his body against my back. I can also feel him harden. I grab his hand and spin around so I’m facing him. I put my lips to his ear and whisper back. “I guess it wouldn’t be a good idea to tell you I’m not wearing any panties, would it?”

Have you ever woken up one day and said, “Today’s the day I’m going to do (insert thing here)?” Well, I did, and the result is my first novel, Stay. I always thought of myself as a decent writer, and then a trip down memory lane through my ninth grade book of poetry confirmed it. I realize that I have always had a romantic side and a way with words. With support from my husband and kids (and an unspoken agreement to leave me alone for a few hours every night), I embarked on this incredible writing journey.

I’m originally from sunny Southern California and spent my summers in South Florida. I attended college at FSU and received my Masters in New Mexico. I finally settled in the Washington, DC area. My happy place has always been anywhere near the water.

When I’m not writing, I help run a business with my husband, watch an inordinate amount of sports (my kids play something 365 days a year), indulge my competitive spirit on the tennis court, and spend time with my awesome family and friends.

I am an avid reader, but find my characters feel neglected when I hang out with other author’s characters for too long. When I do read, historical fiction is my favorite genre. I love traveling and experiencing different cultures, places, and times.

I feel so blessed that my love of books inspired me to finally do something that I forgot I had always dreamed about doing.

My someday has arrived!
